How to make a garden in a raised bed?

There are woods and landscape around is 5×5 and full of tall grass, not too high off the rest of land. How do I get rid of the grass and have it ready for a vegetable garden next spring? Step by step please … I am willing to read the answers long!

Dig up the soil, add compost and leaf compost fallen to earth with a plaster or lime. Plaster will not change your soil acid lime makes the soil Ph. less. Both make the soil less compact and makes it better drainage. You can add sand to the ground too, if you have a lot of mud. Spread a thick layer of newspapers to kill the grass, then lay a thick mulch on top of it. Or, you can set plastic or any material that smothers weeds and you can poke a hole big enough to put in a plant, when ready. Soil excavating an area too soon before winter. Freezing and thawing helps eliminate weeds, and then I add the compost and gypsum or lime. When it is time to plant, I like a large enough area for each plant, remove any large compact group, and replace the topsoil or compost. Sometimes I add a little peat moss for acid loving plants. Then I put on my plants and add mulch around of them.
