landscaping designs for small yards
I need to design the landscape of a small backyard. Any advice?
I see a lot of books on garden design major, but live in California and have a very small back yard that we would urge (now just mulch). Is it worth hiring a contractor? Is there good software landscape design we might use to help do that for ourselves?

I plant vertically … Tall, slender shrubs, climbing plants, baskets wing fence, house, etc. Save all the land space you have for you to move around and enjoy. Plants potted offer lots of versatility. If you get tired of where they are or need that space later, only move them. PS Keep fertilizer away from the foundation of the house. It is easier to access errors basements and crawlspaces.
